Integration

The Integration Plan was designed to provide mechanisms for mobility of researchers and practitioners, for knowledge exchange across disciplinary boundaries, for integration of research into local and regional innovation projects, for strengthening the role of the national centres of excellence, and for integrating the national centres though a single virtual centre of excellence.

Integrating activities include investigation of barriers to integration, exchange of researchers between institutions, placement of researchers in regions, focused workshops, PhD student seminars, exchange programmes among students to foster European mobility, student field studies, integration of research into local and regional innovation programmes and development of a virtual resource centre as the European eParticipation knowledge portal.

WP 1 - Integration strategy

This integration activity was on one hand designed to collect the barriers and challenges identified in WPs 2 to 6, which currently hinder the integration of European research and innovation efforts in eParticipation.

WP 2 - Educational and student exchange programme

The workpackage developed the educational and support structures for research students in the field of eParticipation which ensure that they understand the common body of research knowledge and emerging research agendas. It also put in place the organisation and funding mechanisms for research student exchanges which enable cross-fertilization of ideas, cross-disciplinary work, development of connections with regional innovation programmes and development of common problem understandings amongst the coming generation of researchers.

WP 3 - Research exchange programme

The research exchange package provided further mechanisms and instruments to integrate currently fragmented eParticipation research and innovation activities. Its objective was to develop the role of national research centres of excellence as focal points and catalysts for eParticipation change, and strengthen their co-operation, resulting in a sustainable structural integration of research and innovation resources.

WP 10 - Sustaining the Network
The aim of this work package was to support and put in place mechanisms to ensure a sustainable network of excellence via the establishment of an eParticipation Network and its technical infrastructure - the Virtual Resource Centre (VRC).
WP 11 - Involving Stakeholders
WP11 has developed the work on engagement and integration of various practitioner groups, using the DEMO_net integration strategy for the practitioner stakeholders identified in the first phase of the project. Furthermore, it has establish ed an eParticipation Community of Practice that consists of Specific Interest Groups (SIGs) for the different practitioner stakeholder groups.

WP 12 - Integrating Researchers

WP 12 worked to actively integrate researchers and PhD students in the DEMO-net network in a sustainable way.
