July News Report from DEMO-net: The eParticipation Network
July 2008

DEMO-net, the eParticipation Network, is making its communication with all those interested in our work more frequent. In this newsletter, we provide you with the latest updates on eParticipation events and news. We remind you that the link of the network is http://www.demo-net.org/.

The Work Programme for 2008 was adopted on 11th June; a new call for proposals has been launched and is open until 29th August 2008 with a total budget of €4.7 million.
The call is open to proposals from legal entities in the 27 EU Member States. The minimum number of participants in a proposal is three independent legal entities, from three different Member States.
 
Upcoming DEMO-net Events
 
The 2008 DEMO-net PhD colloquium is taking place in conjunction with EGOV'08 in cooperation with the AIS Special Interest Group on eGovernment. Papers will be reviewed and discussed by other PhD students and senior researchers in the eParticipation field. Certain tutorials will also take place on eParticipation aspects by senior DEMO-net researchers. Chairs of the PhD Colloquim are Åke Grönlund from Örebro University and Kim V. Andersen from Copenhagen Business School.
 
Other Events Coming Up
 
A workshop will be organised at Dipartimento di Architettura e Urbanistica, Politecnico di Bari, Italy. The aim of the workshop is to make a distinctive contribution to the research roadmap for e-Participation systems.
 
The 3rd International Conference on e-Voting will attract experts from all over the world. In the conference the technical, social and legal aspects of e-Voting will be discussed.
 
A conference is organised by the Ionian University and intends to bring together researchers, teachers and practitioners active in the area of electronic government from different perspectives and disciplines with a focus on the role played by the information and communication technologies.
 
The EDem2008 conference presents the opportunity to discuss and answer questions regarding E-Democracy. During the conference experiences will be collected, examples of good and bad practice will be analysed, and state-of-the-art and future scenarios will be presented and discussed. Professor Ann Macintosh (University of Leeds) will be a key note speaker in this event.
 
Recent Past Events
 
Technical University of Košice has organised a conference and a workshop on informatization of public administration.
 
DEMO-net and Aalborg University have organised a session within the Joint International Conference on Group Decision and Negotiation. This session touched from a GDN perspective some of the key issues in e-participation: e-voting, e-participatory budgeting, facilitating participation with simpler systems and a comparison of participatory and e-participatory processes.
 
Mr Kalampokis E. (University of Macedonia) presented the paper “A Domain Model for eParticipation” by Kalampokis E., Tambouris E. and Tarabanis K.
