Full title: POLIPEDIA.AT Democracy - Politics - Participation

Keywords: eParticipation

Homepage: http://www.polipedia.at/tiki-index.php

Description:

Participation represents an essential element for a successful democracy. Especially young people are supposed to be disinterested in active political participation. Since the voting age in Austria was lowered to 16 years, teenagers are eligible to vote. Therefore political education in school gains tremendous importance.

In line with the project POLIPEDIA.AT the Demokratiezentrum Vienna and the ICT&S Center at the University of Salzburg are working with young people on www.polipedia.at to develop a collaborative online-textbook for political education containing various multimedia-materials and documents on the topics DEMOCRACY - POLITICS - PARTICIPATION for and from young people. By using wikis, blogs, forums, video and audio clips a collaborative online-textbook will be created that enables young people to develop and use knowledge about political issues on a peer-to-peer level. Teenagers will be active producers of political-participative content. This innovative approach provides the opportunity for young people to be involved and to play an active part in the discussion about methods, structures and capacities to increase political participation of youth.
