Semantic Web Services is a technology that extends the very popular computing paradigms of Web Services and Service Oriented Computing by facilitating semantic annotation of web services though the use of ontologies. The ultimate goal is to enable automatic semantic-based discovery, composition and execution of web services across heterogeneous users and domains. The research direction in semantic web services and eParticipation should be directed toward the combination of communication and collaboration protocols in terms of public policy making and policy development. The main areas of eParticipation where semantic web services could contribute the most are information provision and software as a service concept.
